What’s in My Gym Beauty Bag

beauty products in gym bag

So started about a year ago, I go to gym quite frequently, like 5 times a week. It became very clear to me quite fast that I need a fully functional beauty bag in my gym bag. When I say functional, I mean I need makeup remover, facial cleanser, toner, eye cream, moisturizer, sunscreen (if I go to gym at day time), perfume, lip balm and perhaps a blush, and a lipgloss if I go somewhere after gym. Is this considered high maintenance? Hopefully I’m not alone in this department.

I have been experimenting with “gym appropriate” (i.e. small size, light package, doesn’t spill, and easy to use) beauty products for a while now, and am finally happy with what I have. So I thought I will share with you, in case you also need to put together an on-the-go fully functional beauty bag.

Shu Uemura cleansing oil: I started using this even before I started doing makeup. Why you may ask?  Because I have been using sunscreen every day since my early twenties, and I always think regular cleanser doesn’t do a fantastic job on removing sunscreen, I mean, they are not designed for that. Long story short, I found Shu Uemura cleansing oil, love it (particularly the green bottle) and have been using it ever since. I usually purchase a giant bottle (450ml) to leave at my bathroom, and squeeze some into this tiny clear Muji bottle to bring with me to the gym. It’s simple, it gets the job done.

Vichy 3-in-1 cleanser: I have accumulated quite a lot of cleanser samples, and I usually test them out by taking it to the gym. I believe I got this deluxe sample from a feelunique.com beauty bag a while ago,  not a big fan to be honest. It doesn’t clean up my face that well, probably too gentle for my skin. I think I will switch to the fresh soy face cleanser after this, which I redeemed with 100 sephora points when was in the U.S.

First aid beauty vitamin hydrating mist: this one is love, and love at first spray! First of all, just look at how tiny and cute it is! It’s 50 ml, light, small, comes with a good spray pump that distributes product evenly and gently. Not sure about the added benefits of vitamin, but it does an excellent job at calming down my super red face after workout, and keeps it hydrated, and adds a bit of luminosity, but not sticky at all. In short, cannot be more happier with the purchase.

Origins GinZing Refreshing eye cream: I don’t have strong feelings about this eye cream, it’s not amazing, and it’s not bad either.

Josie Maran Argan daily moisturizer SPF 47 with sunboost ATB: I seriously love, love this moisturizer! I got this small size (15ml) in a Josie Maran Christmas skincare set last year, didn’t expect much of it. But boy, what have I missed out the whole time! This moisturizer adds hydration to the skin – it has a very different consistency from the regular moisturizer, but my skin loves it. It gives my skin a nice, natural, living-within-glow (the kind of glow we are all after for). What’s more? The longer hours I wear it, the better it looks on my skin, not sure how that’s possible, but it does! And it comes with SPF 47 (a weird number, I know) with natural broad spectrum (you want that in your sunscreen to protect the skin from UVA, which is the culprit of wrinkles).

Dior Creme de Rose: Initially, I kinda regret of getting this. I mean, it’s obviously over-priced for a lip balm and I didn’t feel it did much to my lips. But after one month of use, one day, I suddenly feel it became much more moisturizing and felt much softer on the lips. Perhaps you just need to go through the top layer to get the goodness out! I like it much better now, it’s a perfect low maintenance product, and the soothing rose scent is a big plus. It’s definitely a nice treat to yourself, but I won’t say it is a must.

Tom Ford Jasmin + Elizabeth & James Nirvana White: Is perfume considered an essential in the gym beauty bag? Not sure about you, but it’s an absolute YES for me. I like to smell nice after some hardcore workout, the right scent can bring peace to my mind and a lot of times, it helps me go through the train ride home (when the train is packed with people in a hot sweaty place like Singapore, you know what I mean…). Recently, I have been rotating between the Tom Ford Jasmin sample and the Elizabeth & James Nirvana white sample. Tom Ford Jasmin, as the name suggests, is a straight up Jasmin scent, not over-powering and goes really well with my bodyshop body butter. Elizabeth & James Nirvana white is a new addition to me, I thought this was going to be another hyped up product that I don’t get, but no, I cannot be more wrong! It smells divine, the tender musk adds a beautiful twist to the floral note, just perfection!

Most of the times, I don’t do any makeup after gym. But occasionally, when I feel like it, I will throw on some color on my face. So in the bag, I have packed Gosh stick blush, and Tanya Burr lip gloss in picnic in the park.

The blush is nothing special, actually, I don’t like the formula at all. It fades fast on me, and is a bit patchy when applying on. Also, if you have noticed, the writing has completely faded off, and I haven’t even used it that many times!

The lip gloss though, is quite nice. I’m a big fan of the Tanya Burr’s lip gloss collection, they are balmy, moisturizing, ultra-shine, smells sweet and has pretty good color pay off.

All of these products fit into a medium sized makeup bag. I’m quite happy with the selection so far… What’s in your gym beauty bag?
