I’m very low maintenance when it comes to the nails (or should I say lazy?), most of the times, I don’t have any nail polish on. So it’s almost a mystery that what triggered me to pick up the Chanel Le Gel Coat Longwear Top Coat and Tom Ford Nail Lacquer in 14 Scarlet Chinois. I mean, can it get more luxe and unnecessary? Probably not, unless you are talking about the Christian Louboutin nail polish, but that’s like a whole new world of luxury.
I’ve been searching for a timeless, bright red nail polish forever. When my eye landed on this Tom Ford Scarlet Chinois, I felt like mission accomplished, it’s the kind of the red that I can see myself use in any day, any season, any occasion, and any age. So just like that, I convinced myself $36 USD for a nail polish is not insane. After all, holiday is the time to treat yourself right? right!
But in all seriousness, it really is a great hot red nail polish, not too orange, not a hue of blue, the kind of red that goes well with all skintones and all ages. The formula is also not disappointing at all (as you would expect from this price point!), it goes on opaque in one swipe, spread evenly, doesn’t drag, no strike, no brush lines. Though, I do have to say that not all Tom Ford nail polishes are created equally, I wasn’t that impressed with the application and formula in the nude shades, they require much more efforts to look perfect.
It lasts about 6-7 days without chipping, which says a lot because I’m not someone that’s careful with my nails by any means. A side note: if you are looking for a wallet friendly nail polish that has amazing lasting powder, Maybelline Superstay is your best bet, reviewed here.
The Chanel Top Coat also performed beyond my expectation, and pairs with the Tom Ford one like a dream. I have been wanting to try the Chanel nail polishes for the longest time, which has the most amazing color selections, but they were notorious with their formula, which chips easily and difficult to get the right color payoff. But they have reformulated the entire nail polish line this year, hence the “Le Gel” branding. If this top coat is a true representation of the new Le Gel line, then I’m in! Because the top coat adds so much shine to the color, and makes any nail polish underneath it last 1-2 days longer.
And do we even need to talk about the packages? Let’s just say, Tom Ford and Chanel can do no wrong when it comes to package!
