I don’t explore the drugstore department as much as I would like to, mainly because most of the times, I end up picking up something I regret buying (those 3 for 2 promotions are too tempting!) But recently, I have really been loving a few drugstore finds, some of which are performing even better than their high-end counterparts, isn’t that exciting!
First one up is the L’Oreal infallible matte foundation. Heard many YouTubers and beauty bloggers raved about this foundation, and they are right, this is a high quality foundation that’s perfect for the hot, humid summer weather. It is a tad too much coverage for my liking, but because of its silky smooth & long lasting finish, I can let it pass. I usually stay away, like far away from any matte products because I just love the dewy, fresh finish, but this foundation is quite an exception. Though it says pro-matte on the package, it doesn’t leave a flat matte finish on the face, and certainly doesn’t cling to dry patches too much, it just glides over and covers all the imperfections on my face, and leave the face looking clean and falwless for the entire day, literally, no touch up or setting powder required. Usually by the end of the day, after about 10 hours of makeup wearing, I still don’t see any unwanted shine on my face. A big thumb up!
The second find is arguably the most exciting one, the Maybelline SuperStay 7 day gel nail polish. I would say this is the best nail polish formula I have ever tried, like ever! Better than OPI, Nails Inc, Bobbi Brown, Essie, Revlon, and etc. literally every brand I have tried so far. They stay on my nails for more than 7 days without any chipping, and the color is very opaque in just one coat, plus its brush is big and flat, makes it ultra easy to apply. I have tried it on my bare nails – with no base coat and no top coat, and it lasted one week in perfect condition, shiny and intact! Not exaggerating, every night before I go to bed, I look at my nails and amazed at how marvelous this nail polish is, I mean, I’m very rough with my nails in general, so for any nail polish to last this long without chipping has never happened in the past! All I can think right now is that I need all the colors in this line!
Oh, oh, on top of the incredible long lasting power, this Mabelline line of nail polish also dries super fast and easy to take off, and did I mention the it is also unbelievably affordable? Putting high end brands aside, it’s even much cheaper than Essie, which chips on me in 1 day. I just wish this line can be available in Singapore, so I don’t have to fly all the way to Australia to get it.
Lastly but certainly not the least is the Rimmel The Only 1 Lipstick. I have always liked Rimmel’s lipstick formulas, in my opinion, they are one of the rare brands that have true drugstore price tag- you know, many drugstore brands are getting more and more expensive nowadays. I picked up this lipstick on a whim without high hope, but am quite impressed with the formulation and color. First of all, it doesn’t smell cheap at all (so much better than the essence and even L’Oreal lipsticks), – a bit fruity, a bit floral and nothing chemical about it. It’s pigmented and moisturizing at the same time, kind like a lip balm and with great color payoff, it stays on the lips very comfortable and gives a wet and glossy finish. The Only 1 lipstick is undoubtedly a bold claim, but I actually think it doesn’t fall too short for that, I’ve been very happy at just carrying this only 1 lipstick – no other lip balms, lip glosses, lip stains – in my purse.
The shade I have is 700, which is a nice everyday mauve, dusty rose color (though, it pulls up a bit orange in the camera in this photo)- not too nude on my pigmented lips, but also not too bright so it’s appropriate for pretty much all occasions. If there is one thing I can pick on about this lipstick line, I’m not a big fan of the package – the bulky design seems to be quite unnecessary to me. But all in all, this lipstick is a keeper!
