Oh, the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream

nyx soft matte lip cream reviewEver since I read Anna from Viviannadoesmakeup raved about the NYX soft matte lip cream in her blog, I have been getting this itch to try them out. So when I spotted a big NYX counter in Jakarta, I picked up 3 of them in less than 10 minutes! Seriously, sometimes I feel I’m the best kind of customer a cosmetic sales associate can expect, I mean, I don’t need much convincing or enabling, if any. And when I cannot decide on the colors? I get them all, lol!

The 3 shades I picked up are Cannes, Stockholm and Sao Paulo. Cannes is described as “matt muted mauve”, but one me it pulls a hint of orange, which I actually really like as I find it just brightens up my complexion very nicely. Stockholm is “mid-tone beige pink”, which on me is an accurate description, it’s so close to my natural lip color that you can barely tell I have anything on. Sao Paulo is the only bright color I got, a bright plummy pink, which I think is actually quite wearable. Oh I love those bright but not too bold lip colors, they make me feel I’m taking a brave step out of my comfort zone, but haven’t taken the step too far…  I love all three shades, but if I have to pick, I would say my favorite is Cannes.

nyx soft matte lip cream swatchesNow to the formula, in short, I’m really digging it! First of all, being NYX, of course it smells nice and yummy, reminds me a lot of vanilla soft ice cream, which who doesn’t like?! “Soft lip cream” is a very accurate name, as it does feel ultra soft, light and smoothing, you don’t even feel it’s there! Especially when applying with a thin layer, which is my favorite way of using this particular lip cream, the colors goes on more evenly and easily, so you don’t have to go back and forth to avoid patchy lips.

I did notice it needs a good few minutes to dry down, but once it’s dry, it doesn’t move easily. It’s not the most long lasting matte lip product out there, but has no problem staying on for 3-5 hours with constant drinking (no color transfer to the cups, yay!) and eating. It doesn’t dry out my lips too much (just ever so slightly), and the color fades down nicely and naturally. I can usually re-apply it 2-3 times throughout the day without getting chipped lips. Personally, I’m completely OK with that. I would prefer to have a lipstick that has less staying power but doesn’t dry up my lips terribly, than an extremely long wearing but also extremely drying one.

I always have at least one of them living in my bag ever since I made the purchase, which says a lot! You know, when a lip product is invited to stay in your bag, it’s a huge deal, am I right? Sephora Singapore carries a decent amount of NYX products and the soft matte lip cream is retailed at $13 SGD a piece. I think a trip to the mother ship is inevitable, I need more colors!!!
