Since I’ve crossed the big 30th, I thought it’s time to add retinol to my skincare routine, after all, it’s one of the clinically proven anti-aging products that actually works. I’m completely onboard with the idea that anti-aging needs to start in your late 20s or at least early 30s, as you want your skin to keep its elasticity in its prime stage, right? Anyway, that has always been my believe.
So I picked up this Paula’s Choice 1% Retinol Clinical Treatment from Paula’s Choice (by the way, Paula’s Choice has a local distributor in Singapore now, cannot being to tell you how excited I am!), after hearing all the good reviews. And let me tell you, it’s even better than I imagined!
First of all, it doesn’t break me out. When I first started using it, I was very nervous of severe break out, as it’s a normal reaction for people who are using retinol products, especially if it’s your first time – in laymen’s term: your skin gets worse before it gets better, at least that’s how it looks. But this didn’t happen to me, not even one red dot on my face. It could be because it’s only 1% concentration, which is much lower comparing to doctor prescribed retinol treatment, but I think it’s a good introduction product and good for people who having been wanting to try retinol but were scared away for the initial side effects.
Secondly, I started seeing results right away, like the next morning. A bit surreal right? But I promise it’s not just in my head. After just one night, I woke up to find my skin a bit tighter, and my overall complexion just a bit better. Cannot quite point my finger on exactly what else has changed, but I’m just happier with the way my skin looks and feels.
Needless to say, I continued using this after seeing the great initial results, and my skin continues to improve little by little. The continuity of the result is important, because there are products that give you good results at the beginning, but the effects wear down as you continue using them, which is utterly frustrating.
I have been using it every other night for about a month now. I’ll apply this to the skin right after toner, and then follow up with my moisturizer of the choice, which is either the Vintner’s daughter facial oil or the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream, which is a recent discovery that I have been enjoying. This retinol treatment is in a light weight liquidy consistency , which makes it easy to pair with pretty much any moisturizer or facial oil without feeling greasy.
I’m now hooked on retinol treatment, and have been itching to try out different brands – The Kate Somerville 2-in1 retinol night cream seems to be getting good reviews on Sephora, so I may pick that one up after finishing the Paula’s Choice one.
