Where do I begin with this product? Hmm… Let’s see, I have always been a fan of incorporating some sort of acid peel into my daily skin care routine, but haven’t been particularly impressed with the results – they either feel like they are about to burn your face, or are too mild to make any difference, case in point, the ever popular First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads. But it has now forever changed since I started this journey with the Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Extra Strength Daily Peel, which does everything I have ever wanted, and more.
This facial pad is apparently quite a revolutionary product in the skincare world, because it is rich in five alpha- and beta-hydroxy acids (glycolic, lactic, malic, citric and salicylic). Now I’m not an expert with skin care ingredients, but my skin has typically been reacting quite well to these acids. And I know most people do see benefits from one or a few of these acid for various skin concerns. The extra strength daily peel is a two-step product that can be used right after cleansing, and before serum and essence. The first step acts as a gentle chemical exfoliator to smooth the skin texture, and the second step works as an anti-aging neutralizer to calm down the skin from the previous step, and provides the skin with “free radical-fighting antioxidants”. It’s designed to tackle many skin concerns in one: anti-aging, wrinkles, enlarged pores, blemishes, dark spots, redness and dull complexions. Usually when a product boasts itself to be multi-purpose, and ticks most of the boxes that people are looking for when it comes to skincare, I’m suspicious, isn’t it too good to be true? Turns out, in this case, it actually is a real deal, it does what it says it’s going to do, what a surprise?
I haven’t tried the original daily peel formula from Dr. Dennis Gross, so cannot compare the differences here. But the extra strength seems to be the perfect strength level for me, it has a slight tingly sensation when the first step of peel is initially applied, but it’s so slight that it’s almost negligible for me. But do note, I don’t have sensitive skin in general, and have been using acid products on and off for quite a while, so my skin has probably already warmed up to acid. The peel is soaked with just the right amount of product, I find it enough to massage over my entire face, neck and chest area, sometimes, I also take it to the elbow area for a bit of body exfoliating, you know, got to squeeze every juice out of it! Once the pad is dry, I’ll wait for roughly two minutes as instructed, then followed with the second peel, taking it to the same area.
It doesn’t have strong scent, no irritation on my skin whatsoever. And every time when I use it at night, I always wake up to a brighter complexion with more luminosity, better texture, and clogged pores cleared. I also noticed my fine lines are slightly less noticeable with continuous use as well. All magical things, essentially! As per the instruction, it does suggest you to use the peel every day, AM and PM. But I have been pretty frugal with it so far, have only been using it every 2-3 days at night, and the result of one application does hold up pretty well. Also, let’s be honest, it is expensive! I cannot bring myself to burn through the whole thing in a month.
But seriously, if you are thinking about investing in an effective anti-aging product, this is definitely one to look into. And don’t forget it comes in a convenient individual pack, which makes it an ideal product to travel with. It also ensures no product will go wasted, which has been the problem I have with all facial pads that come in a jar – they dried up gradually every time you open the lid to take out one pad. So yeah, other than the fact it’s not cheap, literally everything about this product just exemplifies perfection.
