In the past few months, the By Terry Sheer Expert foundation has been my go-on, on the rush weekday base. I have been using it so much that I feel it’s only right to tell you all what a fantastic foundation it is.
If you have read my past posts on foundation reviews, you could probably gather that I prefer a light to medium coverage foundation, the ones that would do just the right amount of work to make your skin look better without looking fake. The By Terry Sheer Expert Foundation, in short, ticks all the boxes, and also provides extra bonus points. In fact, I would say this is probably the most beautiful light to medium coverage foundation that I have ever had. Do you remember I used to be quite obsessed with the Chantecaille Just Skin Tinted Moisturizer (post here)? Yep, I think the By Terry Sheer Expert has just replaced its spot. Now, let me tell you why.
Like all By Terry products, this foundation does have a light floral fragrance, which personally I don’t mind, and it goes away pretty fast. Even though the name of the product suggests it’s a sheer coverage foundation, I actually find it to be a solid light to medium coverage, more than what you would get with your usual tinted moisturizer (also more than the Chantecaille Just Skin Tinted Moisturizer). On most days, I would apply just with my fingers, and one dot of the product is enough to hide my redness, even out my skin tone, and lighten any scars I have going on. Then, pop on a bit of under eye concealer, and I’m good to go.
Not only does the foundation blurs the imperfections on the skin, minimize the appearance of pores, but also melts into the skin and makes it look creamier and softer, gives you that “my skin but the best version of it” result. After initial application, the foundation leaves a skin like finish – not matte, and not glowy either. However, as the day goes by, and as your skin starts to produce oil, the foundation blends even more into your natural skin, you will notice your skin starts to looking better and better: more radiant, more glowy, but never greasy or looks like you have heave makeup on. Even though it doesn’t claim so, I find this foundation wears well all day long. There are occasions I have had it on for more than 12 hours, and it still looks good, probably due to its ability to “blend into the skin and become one”.
I also love how lightweight this foundation feels on the skin. There are some foundations that also give beautiful finish, but you could feel them sitting on your skin the entire time, and cannot wait to take them off at the end of the day. That’s not the case with the By Terry Sheer Expert, it’s so weightless and traceless that sometimes I don’t even remember I have it on.
The only flaw of this foundation is that it doesn’t have the widest range of shade selections, 11 of them to be exact, and all of them are all on the light side. I was able to find my perfect match No.7 Vanilla Beige sight unseen, but if you have access to the By Terry Sheer Expert Foundation in your local retail stores, I would highly recommend to test it in person and see if there is a right match for you.
In summary, I absolutely love the By Terry Sheer Expert Foundation for my combination to dry (dehydrated) skin, and based on the glowy reviews I have seen online, I suspect it would suit anyone that likes a light to medium coverage base, doesn’t matter if you have dry, combination or oily skin.
